Helpful Tips For Finding The Perfect Pregnancy Bra
Posted by: | CommentsJust as pregnancy bras differ in various ways from your regular bra, so too does the way it should be fitted. Here are some tips to help you find the perfect pregnancy bra.
Having been frustrated by inferior bras fit on many occasions during my first pregnancy, I decided to launch my own maternity lingerie company and I do believe I solved the problem! One important factor in determining the right pregnancy bra for you is to take the time to visit your nearest specialty lingerie store to be measured. After being properly measured by a professional bra fitter, it is now time to fit the bra.
Every pregnancy bra will fit slightly differently and not every bra will suit every bust shape, so do ask to try a few different styles of nursing or pregnancy bras. Before fitting the bra, lengthen the shoulder straps out right to the end. Slip the straps over your shoulders and whilst holding both ends of the bra, lean forward into the bra so your bust will fall naturally into the cups. This is particularly important when fitting your pregnancy bra as your breasts will be a different shape than they were pre-pregnancy and by doing this, you will ensure you are fully in the cup.
Straighten your posture and fasten the back closure to the second tightest set of eyes. All well designed pregnancy bras have six rows of hooks and eyes to provide room for expansion in the diaphragm, which will allow for the bra to be loosened (on average) one set of eyes per month during pregnancy.
Note: If you are seven to eight months pregnant when you are being fitted, the bra should be secured on one of the looser set of eyes.
Pull the bra down firmly to position the back fastening underneath the shoulder blades. Now lift the bust into the bra cups by using the opposite hand to the breast. It is important that your breast is correctly positioned in the cup and is not sitting under the band or spilling over the top of the underarm.
Note: There should be enough room in the cup to allow you to slide your hand into the upper cup of the pregnancy bra for expansion when the milk flow arrives.
Lastly adjust the shoulder straps so they give a firm but comfortable uplift to your bust. Your pregnancy bra should give you the same beautiful silhouette and support you experience from your regular lingerie. To see this for yourself before you purchase your new lingerie, make sure you try your own clothes over the top and observe yourself in the mirror. Gorgeous!

Pregnancy Guide – Pregnant Without Pounds Reviews
Posted by: | CommentsWhen planning on starting a family your health, fitness and nutrition is a major factor in having a healthy pregnancy and a healthy baby.
I found this very informative book called Pregnancy Without Pounds. I started looking for information on pregnancy weight gain as my niece who is in her early 30′s’ was pregnant with her first child and wanted to keep her weight gain at a healthy limit without sacrificing the health of the baby. This book is beneficial for any woman considering having children in the near future, those who are currently pregnant, and for the women who have just had their baby (congratulations!) and now are trying to lose the weight they gained during pregnancy.
Nutrition and exercise is a major role in having a healthy pregnancy for you and your baby. Being pregnant is not an excuse to let yourself go, indulge your cravings, quit a fitness routine and literally eat yourself out of house and home! Your body is your Temple and you are in charge of taking care of it. A nutritional balance of food and exercise will make your pregnancy easier by giving your baby the proper nutrients it needs to grow and also lessen your chances of morning sickness and other related pregnancy side effects.
Normal weight gain is usually 15 to 25 pound for the average woman. If you are a little overweight to being overweight it is even more important for you to change your eating habits and start a fitness plan to keep you and your baby healthy through the pregnancy. I looked up the facts for how much pregnancy weight you should gain if you are already overweight and found this information on About.com. If your BMI (body mass index) is 30+ you should gain between 11 – 20 pounds. If your BMI is between 25 – 25.9 you should gain 15 to 25 pounds. Being overweight in pregnancy also means you have a higher risk for complications such as gestational diabetes, high blood pressure and more aches and pains.
Pregnancy Without Pounds was written by Michelle Moss who has been a leading expert online in pregnancy fitness for the past 8 years. She also has 15 years experience as a Health & Nutrition Coach, a Masters Degree in Holistic Nutrition, a Kinesiology Diploma, Psychology Degree and a Personal Trainer Certificate. In this book she shares her formula for successful weight maintenance and body sculpting specifically for pregnant new moms. Her book comes with an Exercise Manual, and Exercise Journal, and a Weight Gain Chart Manager along with other easy to follow plans. This proven program shows you how to get in better shape in as little as 27 minutes a day with minimal effort using “pregnant friendly exercises”.
This is not your ordinary book about pregnancy, but a book about fitness and nutrition written by Michelle Moss who is an expert in this field. This truly is a self help book and guide and you owe it to yourself and your baby to take a look at it.

The 6 Things You NEED To Know To Beat Morning Sickness!
Posted by: | CommentsMorning sickness can make your first trimester a real drag and turn what should be pregnancy heaven into pregnancy hell. That constant feeling like you’re on a very small boat in a very rough ocean can be really draining after a while and can throw any intentions you had for good pregnancy nutrition and a targeted pregnancy fitness plan, right out the window.
You know that this is a crucial stage in your pregnancy and that you should be doing everything you can to maximise your pregnancy nutrition to provide your baby with everything he needs for healthy development; but that horrible metallic taste in the back of your throat makes even water taste odd!
Fortunately it doesn’t last forever and most morning sickness tends to abate around week 14, but still when you’re only in week 8 that’s a hell of a long time to wait to get your pregnancy nutrition on track!
So what can you do? Well there are tons of different remedies around but none of these are proven to work; in fact most are based on old wives tales, (which is not always a bad thing), and it’s pot luck when it comes to finding something that works for you.
So it makes more sense to understand the causes of morning sickness before you go trying every potion, concoction and lotion around to beat the pregnancy blues.
Here’s what happens:
1.Morning sickness is one of the symptoms of vascular underfill. When your fertilised egg implants into the wall of your womb, it sends out hormonal signals to the rest of your body. These signals command your vascular system to expand in size and it literally doubles its capacity overnight.
2.Blood Volume does not double overnight. So you suddenly have half empty veins and low blood pressure, i.e. vascular underfill which makes you feel sick and fatigued.
3.Morning sickness can start a vicious circle of events that lead to more morning sickness. You see, when you are feeling sick from the vascular underfill you need to eat to provide adequate nutrients for the production of blood cells, but because you are feeling sick, you avoid food.
4.Next your blood sugar drops – making you feel more sick, more fatigued and less like eating. Pregnancy nutrition is out the window and your morning sickness gets worse.
5.All of a sudden your body realises that it hasn’t been fed and shouts for a quick sugar fix. You kindly oblige with a chocolate bar, packet of chips or some other unsupportive food and your insulin shoots through the roof. As soon as the sugar is metabolised your blood sugar drops rapidly and leaves you feeling sick.
6.Now your body is severely lacking the nutrients it needs to nurture your baby and provide for its safe development. One of the key nutrients within the first 13 weeks is Vitamin B6, which incidentally helps control morning sickness. But as you have no intention of following your pregnancy nutrition plan just yet, the morning sickness carries on in force.
So now you know what is causing it what do you need to do?
1.Eat Regularly
2.Eat nutrient dense foods
3.Get a lot of rest
4.Make your body as efficient as possible at using energy from your food through regular resistance based pregnancy exercise, (it also diverts blood flow away from the stomach, alleviating morning sickness).
5.Eat protein with every meal to keep your stomach fuller for longer and avoid sharp rises and falls in blood sugar
6.Drink a lot of water to avoid dehydration which can add to feelings of morning sickness
This is not a quick fix! You will feel better within just a couple of days but you need to be consistent with these steps through your first trimester to keep morning sickness at bay!

Dealing with the Swine Flu Threat During Pregnancy
Posted by: | CommentsIt’s officially a pandemic and honestly, I’m a little scared. River is only 8 months old and in babies and pregnant women, swine flu can be very serious. The pandemic has taken 29 lives in the UK so far, (with the majority of these cases seeing underlying health issues), including a pregnant woman, a baby and children.
A report in US News, “Dealing with the Swine Flu Threat During Pregnancy” brought up some salient points which every pregnant woman needs to know about.
Firstly, pregnant women and children have been advised to get the H1N1 vaccination when it comes out in the next month or so, but the question is should pregnant women and children be one of the first or last to receive this vaccination? The vaccination is so new that this would effectively be a mass drugs trial to which we do not definitely know the outcome. “Just today, public health experts said that there’s no way to know if any rare side effects will occur in the new vaccine until millions of people are vaccinated. Those unknowns would make an expectant mom especially nervous.” Deborah Kotz, US News
Secondly, flu vaccinations contain thimerosal, a mercury-containing preservative that was banished from other childhood vaccines several years ago but is still used in most flu vaccines.
Studies on mercury have shown that this element passes into the brain and remains there. Mercury can have profound effects on a developping fetus, which is why pregnant women are advised not to eat shellfish, tuna, shark, mackerel, king and tilefish. (A good pregnancy diet and exercise should take this into account, so if you are following a specific pregnancy fitness program, you should be safe.)
There are thimerosal-free versions of the vaccine available but you may struggle to find a doctor who stocks this.
“John Iskander, the previous head of immunization safety at the CDC, told me last fall that the reason the agency doesn’t recommend thimerosal-free vaccines is because “there’s still not enough women receiving the flu vaccine, and we don’t want to throw up another barrier in the vaccination process.” ” Deborah Kotz, US News
Lastly, pregnant women who have been exposed to someone who has the virus should get the antiviral drug Tamiflu. This advice does not apply to non-pregnant women (or men in fact!).
The best thing you can do to make sure you stay healthy and fit during pregnancy is take proper precautions. Always wash your hands after being in a public place and it’s worth carrying a bottle of hand sanitizer in your handbag for occasions when you are out and there’s no access to a washbasin. Make sure your children have good hand hygeine too.
If you are pregnant and you do have symptoms, contact your GP straight away. Stay hydrated and stock up on nutrient dense foods.
