Although having baby is an exciting and emotional time in a couples life, it also means that there will be some major life changes. For instance, you and your partner will no longer be living as a couple that has the freedom to get up and go at a moments notice. Basically, you will be responsible for a precious new life. Before baby makes three, couples will often take one last vacation to relax and enjoy the last moments alone. When you are planning the perfect babymoon vacation, there are a number of things you can do to make your time together relaxing, enjoyable and memorable.

1. There is a certain point in the pregnancy when a woman should not travel due to the risk of premature labor. It is recommended that a pregnant woman not fly before 12 weeks. The best time for an expectant mother to travel is during the second trimester, weeks 14 to 27. During this period, morning sickness should have subsided. While on the plane, make sure you stretch your legs every hour to prevent blood clots. As well, make sure you get a comfortable seat with plenty of leg room.

2. When planning where to travel when pregnant, it is important to choose a destination where you will be comfortable. Traveling to a destination that is known for extreme heat may not be a good choice as the heat can cause dehydration and nausea. The Caribbean and Florida are popular winter destinations. Canada is a great place to travel as the climate is very temperate. You will also want to travel to places that have quality healthy food with comfortable hotels. As well, you should familiarize yourself with the location of the local hospitals and physician clinics.

3. Vacationing while pregnant means you have to choose the appropriate clothing. Clothing should be loose fitting and the fabric soft on the skin. Elastic waistlines are a good choice. You should also make sure your clothing is appropriate for the climate. You do not want to be too cold or so hot that you are constantly perspiring.

4. While at your destination, you have to make sure you are eating and drinking healthy. You should consider drinking only bottled water. As well, eat at fine restaurants that have an excellent rating. Eat foods that are healthy for you and the baby. You can even bring your own healthy snacks.

5. Make sure you have had a doctors health check up before you leave. If you are staying at a sunny destination, wear lots of sunscreen. Bring your vitamins, medicine, and any medical documentation. As well, make sure you get plenty of rest before and during the vacation.

Having a baby means life as a couple will soon be changing to baby makes three. The babymoon vacation is a great time to enjoy the last moments of peace and quiet. When you make the proper travel preparations take your pregnancy into consideration and you will have a fun, healthy, diaper-free unforgettable vacation.

Many of us strive to reach the stage in life where we settle down and start having children. Becoming pregnant can be something we hope and desire, but there are things we should consider before we make the leap to having children. This article goes over things to consider to ensure a healthy pregnancy.

Pregnancy can take a toll on your body so you want to make sure that you are healthy. Many people think or claim they are healthy but their lifestyle and habits tell a different story. Things we do today could have huge consequences in the future and so it is a good idea to get into good health promoting habits now especially if you want to make absolutely sure your pregnancy will be a health one.

First of all it is worth improving your diet. This can be easy to do and you can take it slow if you need to. Adding more raw foods into your diet is a great starting point. Try to eat as much fruit as you desire before each meal and aim for a large green salad daily. Also try to cut out caffeinated drinks and juices (unless you are squeezing the juice fresh at home). Caffeine has been shown to delay concept and has a correlation with infertility. Eating more raw foods and cutting out unnecessary empty calories can be easy as it doesn’t require you to change too much of your diet. Once you have nailed this, you can then go on to making your meals healthier. Being healthy doesn’t mean being complicated. Healthy food can be very easy to prepare and you don’t necessarily have to cook to enjoy a satiating meal.

Healthy eating will also ensure that you main a healthy weight. If you are underweight or overweight, these can cause problems with your pregnancy. Many overweight women find themselves suffering from gestational diabetes, while women who are underweight tend to have low birth weight babies.

Besides eating right, you should also make sure you are exercising. Movement is important to health and well being. Walking daily is a great form of exercise and something you can do in your pregnancy do. The most important aspect of exercise is find things you enjoy doing. Maybe buy a trampoline and use it every other day, while the other days you go for a run or a walk or a dance class. Enjoy it and it won’t seem like exercise but just fun. Swimming and cycling are also great activities to get moving.

Lastly quit smoking, drugs and alcohol. These will affect your pregnancy, ability to conceive and can contribute to miscarriage.

Every woman dreams of a healthy and a happy pregnancy. Pregnancy is one of the biggest events in a woman’s life. Everything changes when you become pregnant. Your ambitions take a back seat during this time and all you want is to have a happy healthy baby.

People would often tell you that you need to eat for two. However, that does not mean that you get an excuse to gorge yourself on all sorts of goodies like ice creams, cakes, and pastries. What it really means is that you need to eat a healthy and nutritious diet. In fact, fast foods and simple sugars can actually cause problems like gestational diabetes. Avoiding such foods will ensure a healthy pregnancy.

To ensure a healthy pregnancy, at the very least you need to increase your calorie consumption by at least 300 calories. Apart from this, you need to make sure that you have certain nutrients in your diet that are critical to your baby’s development and well-being. These include Iron, Folic acid, vitamin D and calcium, vitamin C and Zinc.

At least 0.6 Gms of folic acid is required every day to make sure that you have a healthy pregnancy. Vegetables like beans, peas, romaine lettuce, spinach, and broccoli are rich sources of folic acid. Grains, oranges, and lentils also abound in folate or folic acid. This nutrient is required for the healthy development of the baby’s brain and nervous system. Folic acid is so crucial to your baby’s growth that most doctors would recommend a daily supplement in addition to the diet.

You need about 27 mg of iron every day during your pregnancy. Since the baby needs iron to avoid anaemia during the first few months of his life, you need to ensure that you have adequate amounts of iron in your diet. Many times mothers tend to become anaemic during the last few months of pregnancy as the baby draws his iron reserves for the month. Rich sources of iron include poultry, fish, eggs, and meat.

Vitamin D and calcium are found in yogurt, milk, and cheese. While calcium helps in the formation of strong teeth and bones in the baby, vitamin D is necessary for the absorption of calcium in the body and ensuring a healthy pregnancy. Moreover, if you don’t get the right amount of calcium, the baby will draw calcium from your body, which may lead to problems like osteoporosis and teeth troubles later in life. The daily calcium and vitamin D requirement is about 1300 IU and 200 IU respectively.

Apart from these nutrients, about 11 mg of zinc and 85 mg of vitamin C is also needed for a healthy pregnancy. While zinc can be found in nuts, grains, and fish products, rich sources of vitamin C include citrus fruits, strawberries, and brussels sprouts.

It is important with any diet you take, to make sure you consult with your doctor to be sure you are getting the balance right. Remember you are carrying a very special person inside you!

The right pregnancy nutrition will ensure a healthy pregnancy. This in turn will help your baby to get a good start in life!

According to recent findings by Statistics Canada, approximately half of all Canadian women of childbearing age are considered overweight or obese. While women are advised to lose excess weight before conceiving, North American researchers confirm that rising overweight/obesity rates among pregnant women mirror that of the general population. In other words, many Canadian women are entering pregnancy far from their ideal weight.

What can “plus-size” moms-to-be expect when they are expecting? According to Dr. Cornelia van der Ziel, Harvard Medical School clinical instructor in obstetrics and gynecology, “overweight and obese women, as a group, are at higher risk for developing complications such as gestational diabetes and gestational hypertension.” Studies also point to higher cesarean section rates and a greater likelihood to deliver a high birthweight baby. Van der Ziel also finds that, “What happens during an individual plus-size woman’s pregnancy is based largely on her personal health choices and previous medical history. If a woman is generally healthy before becoming pregnant, carefully monitors diet and exercise, and actively participates in her prenatal care, she is more likely to have a healthy pregnancy.”

Van der Ziel, along with Jacqueline Tourville, a childbirth educator and plus-size mom, are the co-authors of BIG, BEAUTIFUL AND PREGNANT: EXPERT ADVICE AND COMFORTING WISDOM FOR THE EXPECTING PLUS-SIZE WOMAN, a new release from Marlowe/Avalon Publishing Group. Because a woman’s ability to learn about pregnancy and childbirth is critical to taking good care of herself and her unborn baby, the pair decided it was finally time to offer the plus-size population a friendly, medically sound guide delivering the skinny on what to expect from pregnancy, birth, and beyond.

Based in part on countless conversations van der Ziel has had over the years with her overweight and obese patients, as well as Tourville’s firsthand experiences, BIG, BEAUTIFUL AND PREGNANT addresses plus-size women’s most pressing prenatal concerns, including: Is my pregnancy doomed to encounter complications because I’m overweight? How can I find a sympathetic prenatal care provider? How much weight should I gain? Why am I being tested for gestational diabetes? Will my baby be big because of my size? Where can I find trendy plus-size maternity clothes? After my baby is born, what can I do to give my child the healthiest possible start in life?

The authors hope the book provides plus-size women with information, inspiration, and reassurance that they can have a healthy and happy pregnancy. Ann Douglas, author of the best-selling MOTHER OF ALL PREGNANCY BOOKS says, “BIG, BEAUTIFUL AND PREGNANT will leave you feeling confident, sexy, and informed for nine months and beyond.” Pioneering midwife, Ina May Gaskin adds, “It’s understanding and understandable, positive and inspiring and always a source of information that’s often hard to find elsewhere.” And, as a sign plus-size pregnancy has achieved prominent health issue status, the LIBRARY JOURNAL, in a recent starred review, calls BIG, BEAUTIFUL AND PREGNANT, “an important addition to… [consumer health] literature.”
