12th Ward, Alderman George Cardenas, will Honor and Celebrate the 109th Birthday of Saint Anthony Hospital for its Dedication and Service to the Community

(PRWEB) June 9, 2005

In addition to the birthday ceremony, the hospital is celebrating this yearÂ?s birthday with various activities through out the hospital all month long. A special birthday mass will be held along with an associate picnic and much more.

In 2004, a historic group of mothers joined the 108th birthday celebration, as they all had their babies during a 24-hour period from April 18-19, 2004. Saint Anthony Hospital is known for new arrivals, on an average, over 2500 babies are born every year. According to Rosemary F. Meganck, APN, CNM, Director of WomenÂ?s Services, Â?Births occur equally during the week and at all times of the day. The busiest months in the Midwest are July and October and on an average, more boys than girls are born. The average baby weighs 7 lbs and about 85% of babies go home within a 48 hour periodÂ?.

Saint Anthony HospitalÂ?s roots in Chicago are deep. Its healthcare ministry began in 1896, when four young Franciscan Sisters of the Sacred Heart, a Catholic order dedicated to serving the sick, opened a six-bed clinic over a bakery in the cityÂ?s booking stockyard district. By 1898, their quality of care and exceptional kindness was renowned, and the tiny clinic was replaced by a new 75 bed-hospital.

Mother and Baby sitting at a computer

Alexandria, VA (PRWEB) November 11, 2008

Only moms can truly appreciate the joys and challenges of motherhood. To help connect moms across the country, Lansinoh Laboratories, a leading marketer of premium breastfeeding and baby products, has created its new online community – Lansinohmoms.com. “Lansinoh has been supporting and nurturing a community of new mothers for more than 20 years, so creating a place where moms can virtually find and share answers, encouragement and support from other moms online is a natural extension,” explains Kira Wood, director of marketing at Lansinoh®.

New members to the www.Lansinohmoms.com community will be given the opportunity to create a personal profile, so their new online friends can get to know them and their motherhood experiences. And, because Lansinoh values what moms think, polls will be taken on various topics, with the results shared so the members can see how other moms are thinking and feeling.

“Lansinoh was started by a breastfeeding mother who developed a product, Lansinoh Lanolin, that helped solve a problem she was experiencing – sore, cracked nipples – but for which no product existed at the time,” says Wood. “That unique product become a springboard for a whole category of products for breastfeeding women and now, after more than two decades of talking to new moms through Lansinoh’s breastfeeding outreach efforts, we understand that women crave information and love to share their own knowledge and experiences with other moms in similar situations.”

The sky is the limit when it comes to the topics that will be discussed at Lansinohmoms.com. There are numerous conversations for moms to join or they can start a new one on their own. Because the forum is open to all moms, topics can range from life with a newborn or toddler, and getting back into the workforce, to the joys and challenges of breastfeeding.

What’s more, Lansinohmoms.com will soon feature online guests including lactation consultants and other breastfeeding experts to take part in discussions about different pressing topics. “The Lansinoh Community forum will allow moms to candidly discuss their experiences as a mother, share tips with other members and even ask our experts questions related to motherhood,” says Wood.

“With all the new challenges and decisions mothers are faced with each day, we hope this forum will be a meaningful and refreshing pause in their day,” expresses Wood. “We are really excited about this site and are determined to make this a place where moms will feel confident that they will get the support they need, in addition to the accurate and helpful information they want and deserve.”

WASHINGTON, D.C. (PRWEB) December 2, 2005

The US Department of Health and Human Services Office on Women’s Health (OWH) and the DC Breastfeeding Coalition are seeking nominations for the Washington Breastfeeding Friendly Business and Community Awards. Award winners will be recognized at a special awards breakfast co-sponsored by Glamourmom, on January 12, 2006 at the National Museum for Women in the Arts.

Breastfeeding is the best way to feed infants during the first 6 months of life and to reduce infant mortality, childhood illness and obesity. Despite the benefits, Washington, D.C. has the second worst 6-months breastfeeding rates in the country. For many mothers, keeping a breastfeeding routine can be a challenge when out in public or returning to work after maternity leave. According to a national survey conducted this year, nearly half of women are uncomfortable with breastfeeding their baby in a park, store or mall.

The Washington Breastfeeding Friendly Business and Community Awards will recognize leading business and community advocates for their support of breastfeeding mothers. Awards will be given in three categories—Breastfeeding Friendly Business, Breastfeeding Friendly Employer ad Breastfeeding Community Advocate.

Breastfeeding Friendly Business Award

This award will be given to a retail business or public agency that welcomes breastfeeding mothers and/or makes it easy to nurse in their establishment. Businesses may include restaurants, libraries, malls, retail stores, health clubs, museums and other public facilities.

Breastfeeding Friendly Employer Award

This award will recognize an employer that actively supports breastfeeding employees by fostering an environment in the workplace or implementing leave time or other policies that support breastfeeding.

Breastfeeding Advocate Award

The Breastfeeding Advocate award will be given in recognition of an individual who, through their volunteer, educational, advocacy and/or professional efforts, have significantly contributed to the promotion of breastfeeding in the Washington area.

Nominations are due by 5:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 14. Winners will be selected by a respected panel of local health and business professionals. Additional information about the awards including nomination forms is available at www.dcbreastfeeds.org or by calling (202) 742-5933.

The awards program is an OWH sponsored event to complement its National Breastfeeding Awareness Campaign, which includes partnerships with local breastfeeding organizations and Ad Council-sponsored public service announcements designed to promote breastfeeding to first-time mothers.
